I never really knew about being a bone marrow donor before all this happened to me, but what I have learned now has amazed me.
As I said on my Be A Donor page, you can sign up with Anthony Nolan if you are aged between 16 and 30, and with the NHS if you are 18 to 49.
- Every 20 minutes someone in the UK finds out they have a blood cancer.
- Around 1,800 people in the UK in need of a bone marrow transplant every year. This is usually their last chance of survival.
- 90% of donations are done by stem cell collection which isn’t invasive and is a procedure similar to giving blood.
So… what I want to know is why more people haven’t registered, or if you have. This is an anonymous Poll so don’t worry, I won’t be chasing after you!!
Many thanks for taking part 🙂
